When it comes to choosing a wedding DJ, there’s one topic which always seems to divide people. Do you choose a DJ who only works at weddings or do you choose one who performs at all sorts of events?
The argument for choosing a DJ who only plays at weddings is that he or she is extremely experienced and knows everything there is to know about DJing at weddings. There is something to be said for that.
There is another side to this, though:
A DJ who has played at festivals, clubs, sports events, parties as well as weddings is much more flexible as a person and as a DJ. If DJs play weddings twice a week, then they will undoubtedly become very experienced wedding DJs but…there is the very real danger of complacency. If you push yourself to play at a varied range of events, you are more likely to plan carefully for each and every one, not relying on playing exactly the same songs you played a week ago.
At Chica DJs, we like to mix things up and we’re proud of it.
We play at all different types of events so that we can extend our boundaries, become as flexible as we can, meet more people, put ourselves in different situations. We think that variety is the spice of life and so we try to really enjoy every event we play at. This means that we want the music to be the very best it can be for the people who are attending.
We all know that there are certain songs which most people like to hear at weddings, that get everyone moving…but there are so many more which are just as great but which may not be on the standard DJ wedding playlist. We love suggesting more unusual songs as well as the guaranteed hits. We also produce music which means that we can tailor songs to our clients’ needs and make personalised mixes as a souvenir of the event.
For us, it’s not about being a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. It’s about being dedicated to playing the right music for all types of audience and about working hard to gain transferable skills wherever we can.
Secret Garden Party competition winners
Chica DJs are proud to play at lots of events – we’ve played at festivals, clubs, parties and sports events. You may have heard of a rather famous festival in the UK called Secret Garden Party. Every year, the organisers hold a mix competition based on the festival theme. The first prize is to play live at the festival. We entered the mix competition in 2014 – and we won it!
